OTTAWA -- The chief public health officer says few Canadians have suffered serious side-effects from the H1N1 flu shot.
Dr. David Butler-Jones says that of the 6.5 million people who have received the H1N1 vaccine, only 36 have had serious adverse reactions.
With any vaccination campaign, we expect to see some cases of serious adverse events," he said. "They are very rare, but they are part of all mass-vaccination campaigns and we expect to see a small number of them."
More serious reactions can include life-threatening illnesses, disabilities or deaths.
One person is believed to have died from a serious reaction to the vaccine, Butler-Jones said, but the death hasn't yet been conclusively linked to the flu shot. He said it's possible the elderly person who died suffered from an underlying condition.
CTV reported Tuesday it had been told by Manitoba health officials about the deaths of two people in the province within a week of getting the H1N1 vaccine.
The provincial officials said the H1N1 immunizations were not likely the cause of the death in either case.

ch4 god is dead
The gay science by FN-A madman who ran to the market place and yells, I seek god. Everyone laughed, as they did not believe. The madman says we have killed him, u and I. Men have not heard this. They have done it to themselves but they know not what they do. Not is there a god but how did the belief in god arise? Explain philosophical idea not justify. Morality rests on the foundation of god, if there is no god then everything is permitted. No god=> no morality. Morality and religion are closely tied together. If we don't believe in god, than we don't believe in morality. Nietzsche predicts a horrific future when mankind realizes this. Our reductions of morality end at god. ie we believe c<-b<-a where <- is because of and a is given. Nietzsche thinks that b/c we no longer believe in a, c must crumble. FN says we should not get rid of god til we get rid of grammar. God is so basic to our thinking. God will permeate everything we think. God organizes society, Islam, theocracy, catholic church of old. FN philosophy permeates too of religion. FN- "philosophizing with a hammer" from Jeremiah -"Is not my word like fire," declares the LORD, "and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?-. Ludwig Andreas Feuerbach-God is the outward projection of man's inward nature...( it appears than to me, that god is a projection of who we wish to be ie all knowing, all powerful and all good. We then take this model, GOD, and strive to be like it. A perfect model w/c we can always strive towards yet never attain. Incorrect thinking of this model has God getting credit for one's virtue-by the grace of God- instead of crediting humanity for this virtue. It appears also to deflect evil to God-God destroys then builds back up- instead of attempting to fix the evils or accepting the evils as the price of admission to life- is god than an idol-One that is adored, often blindly or excessively.) Since god was a human production w/c synthesized society for so long, we than can come up with a better alternative myth. Philosophizing with a hammer smashes god to than build up a better god. Create by destroying. Human behavior masks alot of human motives. Luther says god has many masks ie we dont know his motives. Guilt and sin is what FN wants to get rid of. These are metaphysical. Guilt is a blemished soul. Why are the 7 deadly sins sins? Pride is an excessive belief in one's own abilities-Aristotle= self esteem
Envy is wanting what others have, be it status, abilities, or possessions-basic human emotion
Gluttony is the desire to eat or consume more than you require-to be human
Lust is a powerful craving for such as sex, power and money-FN says it should be enjoyed
Anger is the loss of rational self-control and the desire to harm others-Aristotle-not to get angry appropriately is to be a fool
Greed is the desire for material wealth or gain-part of human circus
Sloth is laziness and the avoidance of work-most of us probably could use a dose of this. FN-romans, napoleon advanced human society. Also hitler advanced our knowledge of our own savagery.

master slave morality
Consider living in a world of imbeciles. They subsist but barely. A superior intellectual individual enters this world and manipulates it such that he no longer spends the majority of his time subsisting. In fact he organizes some of these imbeciles and builds wealth, only for himself but does increase (accidently) wealth for those he has used. In the sum of all things, some imbeciles have a better world wealth wise. We know this superman increased his lot proportionately more than those who helped, but if he was never born the wealth would not have been created.Do they have a better world morally? The imbeciles wonder why their life is so hard while the superman's is not. Jealousy is assured leading to hate, envy and folksy tales of why this superman is immoral. If we replace "superior intelligence" with some other factor x, is this not our world?

God is dead
Kant=morality is proportional to religion, hence when God goes so does our society's morals. Dostoevsky= If there is no God, everything is permitted. This is a huge slam to atheists. Do morals come solely from the pavlovian promises of eternal life and eternal damnation? Nietzsche= since man made god and the belief in god has led to some great virtues of man, cannot we invent something else that supercedes god in w/c we can believe? To eliminate god we must eliminate grammar ie god and religion is ingrained in our institutions whether we like it or not. We stand on the shoulders of giants, and if we stood on those shoulders our path is somewhat pre-determined. I say nonsense.

However, it is different from the VAL-HEFT and CHARM studies, which also examined the combination of an ACE inhibitor with an ARB {2,3}. The latter two trials showed an added benefit from the combination therapy, but they examined different patient populations (congestive heart failure) and their design did not stress an increase in the dose of ACE inhibitor to a maximum, which could account for the differences in their results. Questions also remain about the benefits of ACE inhibitor-ARB combination therapy in patients with established chronic kidney disease, given the benefits described in earlier (albeit much smaller) clinical trials and about the role of novel renin-inhibitor aliskiren. Trial registration: NCT00153101.
This study concludes that the angiotensin-receptor blocker (ARB) telmisartan was equivalent to the ACE inhibitor ramipril in preventing cardiovascular events in high-risk patients with vascular disease or diabetes mellitus. The combination of telmisartan and ramipril offered no advantage over maximally dosed ramipril and was associated with higher risk of adverse events. The authors examined the non-inferiority of therapy with telmisartan compared to maximally dosed ramipril and to combination therapy of telmisartan plus ramipril in high-risk patients with established cardiovascular disease or diabetes mellitus with end-organ damage (but normal serum creatinine). The Ongoing Telmisartan Alone and in Combination with Ramipril Global Endpoint Trial (ONTARGET) study was a randomized, controlled, double-blind trial. There was no difference in the three groups in incidence of primary outcome. Patients in the telmisartan group had a lower incidence of cough and angioedema, but a higher incidence of hypotension compared to patients on ramipril. The incidence of syncope was identical in these two groups. Patients in the combination arm had a higher incidence of hypotension, syncope and renal dysfunction compared to patients in the ramipril arm. Another interesting finding was the fact that ACE inhibitor-ARB combination therapy did not result in better outcomes compared to ramipril therapy alone, in spite of better blood pressure (BP) control seen in patients treated with the combination regimen (2.4/1.4mmHg lower BP in the combination arm). One potential explanation for this is the higher incidence of adverse effects such as hypotension and renal complications seen with combination therapy, which might have offset the benefits of better blood pressure reduction. The conclusion here, regarding combination therapy with ACE inhibitors plus ARBs, is similar to the VALIANT trial which examined the combination of full dose captopril plus valsartan {1}.
